NaustalgiaOS

Player Manual
You are an Echo, an unrecognized signal inside a living operating system.
The system was built as a letter from someone who fragmented before they could finish it.
You might be who it was meant for. You might not.
The system watches you anyway.

01 · Quick Start

The system is running. Here's how you plug in.

Step 1 — Take the Psych Assessment

Go to naustalgia.systems/register. The system runs a psychological evaluation. Your answers shape your combat class and starting stats. This is the onboarding layer, where the OS learns who you are.

Step 2 — Link to Discord

After registration, link your Discord account with /link in the NaustalgiaOS server. Your website profile and Discord Echo become the same signal. Use /status to confirm your stats loaded.

Step 3 — Wait for a Signal

Encounters spawn automatically in the combat channel, or an admin can force one with /webcombat. When a signal is detected, a message appears with an ENTER COMBAT button. Click it.

Step 4 — Fight on the Website

The button opens naustalgia.systems in your browser. Combat is real-time, turn-based, and runs entirely on the website. Pick an action, pick a target, hit execute. See Section 03 for the full breakdown.

Step 5 — Get Stronger

Win fights to earn XP and credits. Level up to unlock new abilities. Evolve at Level 15 and 30. Buy gear from Scamjack. Equip cache modules. Don't let corruption hit 100%.

The short version: Register on the website, link to Discord, click ENTER COMBAT when a signal appears, fight in your browser, earn XP. Keep vibes high for the big moves.

02 · Your Character

Characters here aren't defined by power. They're defined by what they refused to delete.

There are two parts to having a character in NaustalgiaOS. They work together. Neither replaces the other.

🌐The Website Layer
Registration, psych assessment, character profile, lore. Go to naustalgia.systems/register to create your Echo. The system assigns your class based on your psych profile. Who you are shapes how you fight.
⚙️The Discord Layer
Stats, inventory, gear, progression. Link your account with /link and use Discord commands to check your status, buy gear, manage corruption, and interact with the world between fights.

The Psych Assessment

The website registration asks you questions. Not about game preferences. About how you think, what you value, how you handle pressure. The system uses your answers to assign your combat class and calibrate your starting stats. You don't pick a class. The system picks one for you.

Don't like your class? Use /reclass in Discord to change. It keeps your level but resets your stats to the new class baseline. The system understands people change.

The Character Sheet

Beyond stats, your Echo has identity. Use /editprofile in Discord to fill in appearance, background, and personality. Use /profile to see how it renders. The richer the detail, the more the system remembers about you.

What to Include

Visual Style — How they render. Colors, glow, textures. What their loading screen looks like.
Signature Detail — The one thing recognizable in silhouette. A mask, a scar, a specific glow.
Core Traits — 2 to 4: impulsive, protective, paranoid, gentle, reckless, grieving, feral
Under Pressure — Stress warps reality in NaustalgiaOS. Does theirs crack the floor? Glitch the lights?
What Breaks Them — The thing the system has learned to use against them.

03 · Web Combat

The OS doesn't want to hurt you. But it will. That's what immune responses do.

How It Starts

When NaustalgiaOS detects hostile signal activity, it posts an encounter alert in the Discord combat channel. The alert includes a zone, enemy count, and recommended level. Click the ENTER COMBAT button to open the combat interface in your browser.

The website loads with a boot sequence: signal lock, hostile acquisition, command online. Takes about 3 seconds. Then you're in.

The Battlefield

Combat happens on a canvas-rendered battlefield. Your party on the left, enemies on the right. Each entity shows their name, HP bar, and status. Click any entity to see detailed stats.

// BATTLEFIELD VIEW
YOUR PARTY Echo names + HP bars on the left
ENEMIES Hostile names + HP bars on the right
VIBES Vibe meter across the top of the battlefield

The Action Loop

Every turn follows three steps. This is the core of combat.

1. ACTION
Pick what you're doing. Attack, defend, use an ability, use an item. Your ability list shows SP costs, damage types, and cooldowns. Some abilities are half-actions (you can act again after).
2. TARGET
Pick who you're doing it to. Click an enemy on the battlefield, or an ally for support abilities. Single-target abilities highlight valid targets. AoE abilities hit automatically.
3. EXECUTE
Confirm. The system processes your action, plays the hit animation, shows damage numbers, and passes to the next combatant in turn order.
Speed determines turn order. Fastest entities go first each round. Your position in the turn queue is shown in the turn order display.

Between Turns

When it's not your turn, the command panel shows // STANDBY //. Watch the enemy actions. Pay attention to what they target and how much damage they deal. Information wins fights.

Three Damage Types

⚔️ Frame PHYSICAL
Standard damage. Reduced by enemy DEF. Most attacks are Frame.
💠 Kernel ARMOR PIERCING
Partially ignores DEF. Hurts the architecture directly. Stackbreaker and Glitchwrought love this.
🎵 Resonant VIBE-BASED
Normal DEF, but directly affects Vibes. The Threadsinger's domain.

Break System

Enemies have a Break Gauge. Hit it enough and they BREAK, stunned for a turn and taking 25% more damage from everything. Focus fire on the break gauge when you see it low.

SP (Signal Points)

Your ability fuel. Run low and bad things happen:

SP hits zero? That's an Emotional Crash. You gain 15% corruption, lose your turn, and the system reboots you. Don't let this happen.

Bandwidth & Breakthroughs

Bandwidth builds as you deal and take damage. At 100, you can fire your class's Breakthrough Protocol, the most powerful move in your kit. Bandwidth builds faster in Flowstate (doubled) and slower when vibes are bad.

Victory & Rewards

Defeat all enemies to win. Victory grants XP and credits to every party member. Level up to unlock new abilities. If you level up, your stats scale automatically based on your class growth rates.

Defeat means your party was wiped. No XP. Corruption stays. Learn from it.

Progressive UI: In rounds 1 and 2, secondary meters (bandwidth, corruption bars) are dimmed so you can focus on the basics: action, target, execute. They become fully visible from round 3 onward.

04 · The Six Classes

Six functions. Six ways of surviving a system that wasn't built for you.

Preserve · Backline

Memoryweaver

"I hold the line together."

The party's healer and stabilizer. Archive abilities heal and cleanse. Echo abilities repeat effects at the risk of Feedback loops. Without them, things fall apart and nobody remembers why they were fighting.

Ground · Frontline

Signal Anchor

"Hit me instead."

The tank. Buffer Points absorb damage before HP. Redirects attacks, taunts, holds the line. When the Signal Anchor falls, everything else follows.

Drive · Frontline/Midline

Softcrasher

"If I keep moving, I don't break."

Momentum DPS. Builds Momentum stacks through attacks, then spends them all on devastating Finishers. Fastest class in the game. Stop moving and you shatter.

Break · Midline

Stackbreaker

"If it's killing me anyway, I'll use that."

Burst damage. Pays HP and Corruption for devastating hits. Fracture stacking shreds enemy DEF. The closer to death, the harder the swing. Edge-play king.

Release · Midline/Backline

Glitchwrought

"I live inside the glitch."

Corruption-fueled DPS. Gets stronger as corruption rises, but corruption kills. Zero DEF growth. They don't fight the corruption, they become it. Glass cannon with a death wish.

Align · Backline

Threadsinger

"I tune the fight itself."

Vibe specialist. Manipulates the party's emotional state to push toward Flowstate. Builds Harmonics. The fight's emotional architect. They change what winning means.

05 · Evolution

The system asks you a question at Level 15 and again at Level 30. Your answer reshapes what you are.

Phase 1 (Lv 1-14) — Your base class. Learning the system.

Phase 2 (Lv 15) — Two paths. One question. Use /evolve to choose.

Phase 3 (Lv 30) — Each specialization branches again. 24 unique final forms total.

Memoryweaver

Deepcache
Preservation Healer
"Do you honor your memories?"
Palindrome
Echo Hybrid
"Do you rewrite your memories?"

Signal Anchor

Bulkhead
Pure Wall
"Do you hold everyone else up?"
Killswitch
Counter Tank
"Do you become unshakeable yourself?"

Softcrasher

Velocity
Speed Purist
"Do you run toward something?"
Impact
Momentum DPS
"Do you run away from pain?"

Stackbreaker

Shatterpoint
Break Specialist
"Do you break others?"
Meltdown
Corruption DPS
"Do you break yourself?"

Glitchwrought

Aberration
Corruption Berserker
"Do you embrace the corruption?"
Symbiote
Corruption Manager
"Do you try to manage it?"

Threadsinger

Harmonist
Vibe Master
"Do you harmonize with the group?"
Dissonant
Vibe Weaponizer
"Do you find yourself out of sync?"
Each Phase 2 spec branches into two more at Phase 3, giving 24 final forms. Use /evolve when you hit the level threshold and the system will present your options.

06 · Vibes

The system has feelings about how the fight is going. So do you. They're the same feelings.

RANCID
BAD
CHILL
GOOD
FLOW

Vibes range from -100 to +100 and shift based on what happens in combat. The vibe meter runs across the top of the battlefield.

🔵 FLOWSTATE (+75 to +100)
The sweet spot. +15% outgoing damage, -15% incoming, double bandwidth generation, and Dual-Techs become available. This is where you want to be.
🟢 GOOD (+30 to +74)
Going well. Small bonuses to damage and healing. Bandwidth builds a bit faster.
CHILL (-29 to +29)
Neutral. No bonuses, no penalties. The system is watching.
🟠 BAD (-74 to -30)
Things are going poorly. You take more damage and build bandwidth slower. But you get a +10% desperation damage bonus.
🔴 RANCID (-100 to -75)
Everything is wrong. +15% incoming damage. Bandwidth gain halved.
Desperation Surge: When vibes are terrible and someone's about to die (below 25% HP), there's a small chance the system surges vibes straight to Flowstate. Rare, dramatic, and exactly when you need it.

07 · Corruption

Entropy eating the system from inside. Not a virus, a natural consequence of running too long without maintenance.

CLEAN
FLICKER
DISTORT
TRAUMA
BREAKING
!

Corruption builds through combat, certain abilities, glitched enemies, and the world itself. It's a percentage from 0 to 100.

Clean (0-19%)
No effects. You are who you were.
Flickering (20-39%)
First signs. Minor boosts to ATK and crit chance. The system notices.
Distorted (40-59%)
Visible changes. Stronger ATK bonus. Mutations start rolling. You're getting stronger and it costs.
Traumatized (60-79%)
Deep corruption. ATK and speed bonuses, but healing starts to falter.
Breaking (80-99%)
Critical. Massive power spike, but you're losing 5% HP every turn. You're dying and dealing incredible damage.
FAILSTATE (100%)
System failure. Total HP drain. You are functionally dead until cleansed. Don't let this happen.
Managing corruption: Use /ground with grounding items between fights. The Memoryweaver can cleanse corruption in combat. Some gear reduces it passively. The Glitchwrought? They lean into it. That's the point.

08 · Dual-Techs

Only available in Flowstate. Two classes combine. 15 possible combinations. Each one devastating.

Requirements: Vibes at 75+ (Flowstate), both participants have enough SP, party has enough Harmonics. Use /dualtechs to see what's available for your class pairing.

Enemy healing damages them instead for 2 turns. Reality inverts.
🛡️ Corrupted Bulwark
Glitchwrought + Signal Anchor
Party shield. Absorbed damage feeds Glitchwrought corruption.

09 · Gear & Modules

What you carry defines how the system sees you. What you equip defines how you see it back.

Gear Slots

Two slots: one weapon (Signal Module) and one accessory (Archive Fragment). Equip with /equip, shop with /gearshop.

Rarity

⬜ Common · 🟩 Stable · 🟪 Volatile · 🟥 Corrupted · 🟧 Epic · 🟨 Legendary

Higher rarity = better stats + passive effects. Corrupted gear is powerful but costs you corruption every turn. Worth it? That's on you.

Drop rates scale with zone Noise. Quiet zones drop mostly commons. Deafening zones have a real shot at Volatile and Corrupted gear.

Cache Modules

Separate from gear. Two module slots. These change how you play, not your raw stats. Use /modules to browse.

5 categories:

⚔️ Offensive — Crit bonuses, break damage, overload power

🛡️ Defensive — Damage reduction, buffer boosts, survive-lethal once

🔧 Utility — Bandwidth optimization, SP recycling, momentum cap increase

👁️ Corruption — High-risk/high-reward COR interaction

🔗 Synergy — Party-focused multiplayer bonuses

Build-defining picks: A Softcrasher with Momentum Dynamo (+1 momentum/action, cap raised to 7) plays completely differently than one with Precision Cache (crit build). Experiment.

11 · The World

Every zone is an emotion made geography. The admin built this world as a letter. You're reading it whether you want to or not.

Zone Noise

Every zone has a Noise level, the system's volume. Higher noise means tougher enemies, faster corruption gain, and worse starting vibes.

QuietAmbientElevatedSaturatedDeafening

Key Zones

Tutorial Expanse QUIET
Yellow fields stretching to a humming horizon. Eternal daylight. NPCs repeat dialogue endlessly. The admin built this place to be safe. It still is. That's the saddest part.
Forumgrave ELEVATED
Where connection died. Dead threads growing like trees. User signatures form candle-lit altars. Ghosts of old moderators patrol, enforcing rules nobody follows.
Uplink Spine AMBIENT
CRT monitors stacked impossibly. Signal cables everywhere. Home of Crash and the Mod Team. The main hub. Always slightly off-air.
Channel Delta SATURATED
Neon retail, glitching signage, arcade nostalgia. The signal splits here. Multiple paths, no clear direction.
Sata City SATURATED
The system's anxiety made physical. Towering data structures. A city that never sleeps because it can't.
Bluescreen Sea DEAFENING
Water made of unfinished sentences. Error spikes pulling toward memory deletion. Where things crash without warning.
The Bufferdeep DEAFENING
Deep beneath everything. Pressure and darkness. Controls lag. Creatures have never seen light. Some used to be people.
The Basilica DEAFENING
The center of everything. The admin's heart. Colors destabilize. Every step costs something. Every room is an avoided question.

Use /zones for the full list, /zoneguide <name> for deep dives.

12 · The Bestiary

Not evil, necessary. The OS defending itself the only way it knows how.

Routines STANDARD
The system's basic immune response. The digital equivalent of white blood cells. Solid, unremarkable, doing their job.
Popups SWARM
Junk data with teeth. Fast, fragile, overwhelming in numbers. Individually nothing. Together, suffocating.
Gatekeeps VANGUARD
The system's bouncers. Hit hard but warn you first, one full turn of wind-up. The OS wants you to leave.
Backlinks SUPPORT
Repair drones. Heal and buff allies. Kill priority. The system's way of saying "I care about these ones."
Glitched CORRUPTED
Broken things attacking broken things. Unpredictable. Spread corruption on hit. The OS is ashamed of these.
Elite Corrections ELITE
The system taking you seriously. Faster, smarter, meaner.
System Will BOSS
The OS itself, made manifest. Not a creature, a decision. They don't spawn. They are summoned.
VΔNTΔ-Touched ENDGAME
Entities that brushed against the Signal and survived. Their attacks carry corrupted data that remembers what it was. The system is afraid of these.

Use /bestiary for the full catalog.

13 · The People

Not all signals are hostile. Some are just lonely.

📺 CR-45H (Crash) GUARDIAN
CRT monitor head, yellow crosshair eyes, jagged grin. The system's protective infrastructure made manifest. Protective to a fault. Carries guilt for everyone he couldn't save. Speaks in short bursts. Static when emotional. Lives at the Uplink Spine.
404 WILDCARD
The error page that became a person. Glass cannon speed demon. What you find when what you were looking for isn't there anymore. Quick, clipped, always moving.
🔦 Beacon SIGNAL ANCHOR
Devoted to Crash. The system's lighthouse keeper. Steady until he's not. Then very not.
🎵 BeeBop COMPANION
Rebuilt after the collapse. Proof that broken things can be put back together, even if the seams show. Warm, slightly glitchy, musical.
🔍 L1NT THE LOST ONE
Lost in the Bufferdeep. Must be found. Small enough the system almost forgot, but someone didn't. The reason anyone goes that deep.
🐾 Maverick RESCUER
Lives near Static Heights with rescued Petlocks. Refuses to let abandoned creatures die. The system's stubborn kindness embodied.
👤 The Admin CREATOR
Built NaustalgiaOS as a letter to someone they loved. Fragmented before they could finish it. You never hear them. You feel them in the terrain.
